Overview

ISO 45001, Occupational Health and Safety Management System – Requirements with Guidance for Use, is an ISO standard for occupational health and safety management systems that is recognized and implemented worldwide. This standard was published in 2018 to replace OHSAS 18001: 2007.

What are the entry requirements

Anyone can be an ISO auditor.

Internal audits are conducted by employees who have been trained how to audit and they conduct audits within the company on behalf of the company. There are no mandatory qualifications to become an auditor but certification bodies are required to demonstrate that their auditors are competent.

My IRCA certification has lapsed but I`d like to come back .do ineed to submit a new application

If your certification expired more than three years ago, then you will need to submit a new application form and the relevant supporting documents.

Expected Prior Knowledge

Students are expected to have the following prior knowledge:

  1. Knowledge of the following Occupational health and safety management principles and concepts
    The Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle.
    The purpose and benefits of an occupational health and safety management system.
    A basic knowledge of occupational health and safety through hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control and compliance with legal and other requirements
    A basic awareness of common examples of relevant national and local OH&S legislations and requirements.
    Commonly used OH&S terms and definitions as given in OHSMS ISO 45001:2018
  2. Knowledge of the requirements of OHSMS ISO 45001:2018 which may be gained by completing CQI & IRCA certified OH&S management foundation training course or equivalent.
